The Coolin' System /

I Need Some Money 7"

These two nuggets appeared only on the CD format of the Coolin’ System’s debut self-titled album. The LP couldn’t fit all of the session gold from their three days to tape. This minted platter features AJ Eason (pre- AJ & The Jiggawatts) pulling his first vocal duties on the label.

“I Need Some Money” is a classic mid-70s jam by saxophone great, Eddie Harris. It speaks to the G.E.D. Soul story of roughin’ it in Poor Man’s Studio and doing what we do on a shoestring budget.

The B-Side is a tasty cover Jack McDuff’s “To Be Named Later.” We did something special for this 45 and instead of giving you the version from the CD, we brought in our good friend Tony Hartman to lay down his incredible talents on the Steel Pan. He vibes out one killer solo and bangs the melody with precision accompanied by our ace horn players, Mikie Martel and Joe D. Douglas.
